MINUTES OF BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT November 6, 2006 – 5:30 p.m. I. CALL TO ORDER, ROLL CALL, STATEMENT OF AUTHORITY Chairman Ben Winkelman called the meeting of the Board of Adjustment of the City of Bunker Hill Village to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 11977 Memorial Drive, to consider the following: Members present: Also Present: Ben Winkelman, Chair Yolanda Benitez, City Secretary James Whalin Steve Smith, Director of Public Works Gary Miller Susan Schwartz, Councilmember Keith Brown Jean Krivan Members Absent: Bob Newman Mark Allen Al Augustine Henry Houston
The Board of Adjustment members introduced themselves and stated the length of time they have been residents of Bunker Hill and members of the board. Chairman Winkelman read the statement of authority. II. CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION REGARDING APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE FOLLOWING MEETINGS: A. OCTOBER 4, 2006 After a brief discussion, motion was made by James Whalin and seconded by Keith Brown to approve the minutes of October 4, 2006. Motion carried 4 to 1 with Gary Miller voting “no”. III. DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION REGARDING REQUEST FOR A VARIANCE SUBMITTED BY Bunker HILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CONCERNING Additional INSTITUTIONAL signage AT 11950 TAYLORCREST, AS STATED BELOW: chairman Winkelman asked the City Secretary to administer the oath of office to those wishing to speak before the Board. The following persons spoke: Richard Skalski, Senior Project Manager for SBISD, came before the Board to request permission to install the new sign and stated that the school wants both signs to remain. Steve Smith explained that the previous sign was destroyed recently and the school now wishes to replace it. He explained where the new sign would be located and also pointed out that sign was originally approved by the Board of Adjustment in 1989. Mr. Skalski provided additional comments and then inquired as to the need for a variance if one was already granted in 1989. motion was made by Gary Miller and seconded by Keith Brown stating that whereas a variance was originally granted on March 15, 1989 for a sign at Bunker Hill Elementary and whereas the existing sign was damaged and removed and request was made to build a replacement sign, the Board of Adjustment moved that a replacement sign be permitted as approved in the original variance. Motion carried 5 to 0. IV. ADJOURN Motion was made by Keith Brown and seconded by Jean Krivan to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried 5 to 0 and the meeting was adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
