MINUTES OF THE WORKSHOP MEETING OF THE CITY OF BUNKER HILL VILLAGE, TEXAS PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION 11:30 A.M., WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2010 11977 MEMORIAL DRIVE, HOUSTON, TEXAS 77024
Chairman Bill Purifoy called the meeting to order at 11:30 a.m.
Present Also Present Bill Purifoy, Chairman Mayor Essary Bob Croyle, Vice Chairman Jay Smyre, Council Representative for P&Z Alan Augustine Ruthie Sager, City Administrator Gary Orr Steve Smith, Director of Public Works Gerald Teel Eric Herleth, 11930 Knippwood Andrew Newton
Absent: Joel Phipps
Councilmember Jay Smyre said that after the January 28, 2010 meeting he was under the impression that he and members of the commission needed to better understand the issues residents have with the definition of remodel in our ordinance. The ordinance requires that a house be brought up to current building code if the remodel exceeds 50% of the improvement value on the Harris County Appraisal District roll. The other issue is that no concrete slab floor elevation shall be less than twelve (12) inches above the top of the nearest sanitary sewer manhole, nor less than twelve (12) inches above the crown of the street nearest thereto, whichever is the higher elevation. There was discussion on the compatibility of the tree ordinance with proposed remodeling zoning requirements..
Mayor Essary stated that the requirement for every new construction to have a fire sprinkler system installed is, in his opinion, not on the table for discussion. He stated that because of the size of the majority of houses in the villages, a residential fire would most likely be considered as a commercial building for fire-fighting purposes.
The items above were discussed with no action being taken in the workshop meeting.
Chairman Purifoy adjourned the meeting at 1:00 p.m.
Approved and accepted on March 16, 2010.
