Driving Safety Course Information

You may be able to request that a moving violation be dismissed by taking a driving safety course. 

 

In order to be eligible for the driving safety course, you must:

 

p   Have a valid Texas operator’s license (Commercial Drivers License not eligible)

 

p   Have liability insurance or other proof of financial responsibility under the

 name of the defendant.

 

p   You may not have had a driving safety course taken for a ticket dismissal within the proceeding 12 months from the date of the violation or be presently authorized to take a driving safety course by another court.

 

p   If you are charged with speeding 25 miles or more over the posted limit, you are not eligible for a driving safety course.

 

p   If you notify the court in writing on or before the appearance date shown on the citation.

 

Requirements if eligible for the driving safety course:

 

p   A $107.00 court and administrative fee.

p   A $132.00 court and administrative fee if offense was committed in a school zone         

p   Valid Texas drivers license  

p   Proof of insurance (financial responsibility)

 

The clerk will accept your payment along with other requirements and in turn give you some forms with dates.  You will have 90 days to complete the course and submit required proof to the court.  There will be a form that will need to filled out and sent to Austin with $10.00 asking for a certified copy of your driving record.  You can take the class wherever you would like, just as long as the person instructing the class is certified through the state of Texas and the class is for ticket dismissal.  Other information will be given at the time the request is made.
